Known as York Minster, the Cathedral and Metropolitan Church of Saint Peter in York is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe.

The first recorded church on the site dates back to 627. In its current form, construction took over 240 years, commencing in 1230 and completing in 1472. Steeped in centuries of history, it has looked over the people of York through the decades, witnessing everything from William the Conqueror’s Harrying of the North, to the Reformation and Rebellion, to the 20th century events that scarred and shaped the world as we know it today.

Consisting of numerous decorative features – looked at in awe by the many thousands who visit each year – the Minster proudly houses the colloquially known Heart of Yorkshire, as featured in this print – a heart-shaped window centred within the West Window.
