First built in 1850, Winscar Reservoir stands at the edge of the Pennines and the small hamlet of Dunford Bridge. Popular for sailing activities, it also provides for walkers around its 6.3km edge.
I first came across the reservoir when I used to exercise horses in nearby Carlecotes. My colleague Carole and I would often take 'the boys' for a hack along the lanes with her lurcher Brin quietly trotting ahead. One of our regular rides was out to Dunford Bridge, up the hill past the Stanhope and right into the carpark and across the dam head. I never did dare look over and down where the waters flowed downhill!
This composition is based on a photograph taken my an old riding friend of mine – thanks Ali!
