I have sought to reimagine the sweeping form of Whernside from my original paintings, through the digital process of layering texture, pattern and colour.

At 736 metres, Whernside is the highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Its broad, rolling summit and expansive views contrast with the more rugged profiles of its neighbours, while the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct sits nearby, linking the landscape to a rich industrial history. As part of the well-known Three Peaks Challenge, it holds strong associations with shared journeys and personal achievement.

Through my process of deconstruction and reassembly, I explore the textures of open hillside, shifting light and wide skies, using unexpected colour to offer a fresh perspective while retaining a sense of place. This piece reflects my ongoing interest in memory, connection and the quiet presence of landscapes that stay with us.

I have climbed Whernside twice, once in the snow (in April!) and the second time as part of the Three Peaks Challenge. Both times my feet did not fair well in soggy conditions!
