Popular with locals and tourists alike, the Tarr Steps is a clapper bridge, made of huge prehistoric looking stone slabs, and is believed to date back to 1000 BC, with some arguing for a medieval origin.

A local legend claims the devil himself laid the stones and forbade anyone from crossing – until a clever parson outwitted him!

Nestled within Exmoor National Park, the area around the bridge teems with rare flora and fauna, making it a haven for walkers and wildlife lovers alike.

In this print I have sought to capture the essence of the steps and the River Barle in summer – looking back towards the pub as shafts of sunlight create an almost mystical quality to the whole scene.
