Snowdon (Welsh name Yr Wyddfa) is the highest mountain in Wales. Located in Snowdonia National Park, the peak stands at an elevation of 1,085m above sea level, and is extremely popular with walkers and climbers – many of its cliff faces and routes were used by Edmund Hillary in training for his 1953 ascent of Mount Everest. The Snowdon massif – consisting of the pyramid-like peaks of Snowdon and Garnedd Ugain, and the arêtes of the infamous Crib Goch and Y Lliwedd – tower above the waters of Llyn Llydaw (Brittany lake).
