The River Ancholme in North Lincolnshire is home to several fascinating and unusual bridges, each with its own historical and architectural significance.
The current Saxby Bridge is a simple, yet functional red and green steel and concrete structure, replacing an earlier bridge that once served local agricultural and commercial traffic. The River Ancholme has long been a key waterway for trade and transport, and bridges like Saxby played an essential role in connecting communities.
Set amidst the quiet countryside, it makes it a charming spot, particularly for walkers and cyclists exploring the Ancholme Valley Way.
When I first discovered these rather lovely small bridges that span the Ancholme I was instantly taken by their colours and form and how they appeared to be almost miniature in nature.
This digital collage aims to capture the essence of Saxby Bridge and the surrounding landscape, using textures and colourful, layered details to celebrate its historic charm and place within its rural location.
