Prospect Cottage Art Print

With its distinctive black clapperboard cladding and bright yellow window frames, Prospect Cottage is a must visit for anyone heading to Dungeness.

Once the home of artist and filmmaker Derek Jarman, the cottage is now under the custodianship of Creative Folkstone, who open its doors to the public to soak up its atmosphere.

Not only a source of inspiration for Derek himself, but it has also since become a much-loved local landmark and has been reimagined in countless artists ways.

Dungeness is a unique place – it feels slightly ‘other-worldly,’ as though you are quite literally at the end of the world. Dominating the landscape looms the ever-present reminder of our impact on the environment.

In this design I have pieced together elements from an exploratory piece I undertook as part of a challenge to create for enjoyment and experimentation, rather than for commercial success. You’ll spot the power station just behind the cottage, along with lines from everyday life. For me, these hint at the close proximity of domestic life and the imposing presence of the power station in this dessert-like landscape.

This design will forever be a reminder of a road trip taken with friends around Kent and East Sussex – good memories with good people in an area of outstanding natural beauty that I simply had to capture in my distinctive digital collage style.
