Inspired by an Avro Lancaster in flight, the powerful new landmark ‘On Freedom’s Wings’ rises above the landscape alongside the A46 on the Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire border. The sculpture is not only a striking piece of public art but also a solemn and enduring tribute to the thousands of airmen who flew from Lincolnshire’s airfields during World War II.
Positioned near former airfields and close to RAF Swinderby, the site carries deep historical significance. This ambitious project is the vision of the Bomber County Gateway Trust, a registered charity formed with the sole purpose of designing, constructing, and installing this iconic memorial.
In this contemporary collage print, I reimagine the sculpture through layered texture, pattern and colour. Built from my original paintings and developed digitally, the piece captures the sense of movement and quiet power within this striking and commemorative landmark.
