Old Waggon Road Art Print

This Old Waggon Road print recreates another of Vicki's riding memories. The *Old Waggon Road was another favourite route over in the next village of Silkstone, and I loved pottering (and often cantering) along the old track that was once another thriving artery of the local coal industry. It’s characterised by the old stone blocks still visible that held the rail tracks in place for the horse-drawn coal waggons. I had forgotten just how historically rich this area is – essentially once agricultural, it became a hive of industrial activity. Today however, and for the past 40 years+, the waggon road has given itself over to nature and remains an arterial route of a different kind – for transporting you through the lush countryside of South Yorkshire.

*Although referred to as ‘the waggonway’ we called it ‘the old waggon road’ and I still do!
