Step into the heart of English myth and majesty with King Alfred’s Tower, a richly layered digital collage depicting the striking silhouette of this triangular folly rising from the wooded grounds of the Stourhead Estate in Wiltshire.
Standing 160 ft (49 m) and commissioned in 1762 by banker and politician Henry Hoare II – who designed it as part of the landscape garden at Stourhead – the tower commemorates King Alfred the Great, who is said to have rallied his troops nearby in 878AD, before beating the Danes at the Battle of Edington.
Standing tall above the treetops, King Alfred’s Tower becomes a contemplative focal point –rooted in history, yet reimagined as a modern digital collage print.
