Standing high above Gidleigh Common, and the north moor, the recognisable summit of Kes Tor rewards walkers with commanding views out towards Fernworthy Reservoir and surrounding forest. The area is rich in archaeological finds – Bronze age sites with stone rows, circles and settlements can be found nearby.
It is well-known for the large rock basin found at its summit, a supposed link back to Druids in the area and their activities related to the capture of sacred water. When it was first located, once cleared of peat and other debris, the basin measured some 6 feet by 8 feet, with a depth of about 2 and a 1/2 feet!
