Hebden Bridge Mill (Bridge Mill), first built in 1314, has survived and endured to this day, where it stands proudly alongside the River Hebden as a centre of commerce – housing independent businesses, workshops and a studio. It is a community hub rather than merely a relic of our industrial past.
Interestingly, since its restoration in the 1970s, it has embraced sustainability: there is a working water wheel, an Archimedes screw turbine, solar panels, and heat pumps to power parts of the building, and the weir, goit system and remnants of the original walls of the old mill also remain today, encapsulated within the present structure.
