Instantly recognisable for Bridgerton fans, this print features the impressive Grimsthorpe Castle in Lincolnshire. The once humble castle set on a small rise lies within a 3,000 acre site of pastures and woodland, and over the intervening years was further developed and remedied. The north front building was reconstructed in the early 1700s in the Baroque style by Sir John Vanbrugh, and has been the home of the Eresby family since 1516, when it was granted by Henry VIII.
I was particularly fascinated by the symmetry of the building and the ornate coat of arms and Saracen's head detailed in the black and gold gates. I was also taken with the fact that there are trees on the estate that date back hundreds of years; one oak has been aged at 972 years! It is no wonder then that part of the estate is a designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
