A heartfelt tribute to the rich past of this once popular pub on the edge of the Pennines. Situated at a key crossroads, the Flouch Inn was a familiar sight for those navigating the often treacherous moorland roads. It was particularly popular with motorists, lorry drivers, and locals, earning a reputation as a welcoming roadside inn. The pub’s history stretched back over a century, with its rural setting and charm making it a cherished spot in the local landscape.
Over time, changes to road networks, including the construction of the modern A628 Woodhead Pass, led to a decline in passing trade. Eventually, the Flouch Inn closed its doors and was demolished, marking the end of an era for this once-bustling stop-off that, for me, always signalled an exciting journey ahead, be that to Manchester or to the airport and overseas! Though no longer standing, it remains a nostalgic memory for many who travelled through the area, evoking a lost piece of Yorkshire’s roadside heritage.
