Burrow Mump is a small hill, rising 24 metres above the Somerset levels overlooking Southlake Moor and the point at which the River Tone meets the Rivers Carey and Parrett. Atop stands the medieval church of St Michael’s, a Grade II listed building that was never completed.

Popularly associated with King Alfred, who had a base at nearby Athelney Abbey during his conflict with the Danes, Burrow Mump remains a much loved local landmark, and one of three distinctive promontories in the area, along with Brent Knoll and Glastonbury Tor that are steeped in legend and folklore.
